Remember Etsy Treasuries? Although I have not posted one here in awhile, and sadly, Etsy now promotes them less, I continue to truly enjoy seeing their creative themes and unique finds. The moody, vibrant ones always seem to catch my eye the most. Anyone with an Etsy account can create a Treasury, and I think that putting one together is an art form in itself: from selecting images, to choosing a title, to visually arranging them in the given layout. The sky (and the 16-item max. space) is the limit.

To be frank, I'm not very good at maintaining new year's resolutions after a few short months, so this year, I resolve to delve deeper into my psyche and design organically from this unique perspective, instead of merely creating what sells. The amazing designs above, which comprise some of my new Etsy favorites, all exhibit this organic, psyche-driven quality to various degrees: they are tactile, vibrant, and endlessly layered in terms of design. A vulnerability can be seen in each of these creations--from a delicate curve of metal comprising a leaf, to the raw materials used. It almost feels like their very core itself is also quite delicate, so tenuous a process of creation, that if you touch it, it will break apart and leave a penetrating vulnerability behind. But as a whole, these aesthetically rich designs exude an immense, impenetrable depth in their breathtaking complexity and raw beauty.
The creative process of delving deep into vulnerability is what I aim to explore this year, and will document here. A daunting task, this creative process of vulnerability will be deeply personal, although it is my hope that it will also be collectively relevant and accessible for a larger audience. Ideas are currently in the works for this 2015 endeavor, so stay tuned.

I replied, sardonically, but with a playful glint of the eye.

Weather-Inspired Finds
It's been overcast and muggy around here lately--sort of reminiscent of winter weather, but minus the chill factor and comforting urge to pile on a cozy sweater. Peering out the window, it appears to be a foggy day: slight tendrils of fog can be seen, moderate gusts of wind heard, and periodic bursts of sunlight felt, but the cloying warmth and mugginess that has permeated our living space over this odd period of a few days reminds me that it's really 70 degrees Fahrenheit outside. Instead of the 55 degrees I'd much rather prefer.
This strange weather (not quite summer, not quite winter...or fall or spring) has provided the impetus and inspiration to post the unique finds below, which were curated from my Etsy favorites. Besides displaying a wonderful product, each composition has such fantastic mood, evocatively soft lighting, and a fog-lover's choice of colors--lots of varied grays and off-whites abound, naturally highlighting rather than visually overwhelming the products shown. (No blinding-white shadow boxes here.) Together though, is where the complex visual delight lays, for me at least, as this collection of images visually articulate my deep visceral longing for steadiness and consistency (an example of which is the hope of steady weather), in addition to the creative spark that I yearn for at all times--that often proves inconsistent!

I've gotta say that Chicks in Hats has been my favorite Etsy Featured Shop in awhile. As something totally different, whimsically sweet, and so delightfully fun, this humor-laden chick-centric stationery shop's gracing of Etsy's biweekly (or triweekly?) front page Featured Shop section seemed almost out of the blue, since it is not a shop with the typical hipster-influenced technological home decor, bath and body goods, or vintage clothing. The name alone is a beautiful play on words. Chicks in Hats brings us to the heart of doing something you love, as the shop is a collaboration between a mom (who takes the photos) and her little girl (who dresses up the chicks!). On that note, Happy Mother's Day, all!
